It is a light and heart-warming book about books, obviously written from a books lover for other books lovers - I can recommend it whole-heartedly. Some things about the plot and where it will go to can become too obvious as you keep reading but that did not at all deteriorate from my enjoyment of the book. The story itself is engaging and in parts quite mysterious and the character types are varied enough yet not too deep to make this a pleasant, light-hearted read (I guess that could be where the children's book factor comes in?). It is set in modern times and yet manages to weave magic, wizardry and. More than a few times incindents taking place inside the book have made me smile from ear to ear simply because as a book lover I could relate so much. This book tells a captivating tale with simple, straightforward and yet colorful German. It is a book about books and the love of people towards books and reading. In short, if this is the typical children's book that is to be gotten out there I damn well want to be a child! :-) However, after coincidentally talking to a colleague about this book I made up my mind about reading it, and I am glad to say I have not been disappointed. Most books that fall into this category usually do not come within my personal radar range. I have once been under the impression that Cornelia Funke's book "Inkheart" is to be considered a children's book.
